Protecting the Plumbing when Temps Drop

With the leaves falling and temperatures dropping, it’s time to start thinking about winterizing your home, and that includes your plumbing.

So, as you put away your rakes and wheelbarrow, and get out the snow shovel and snowblower, don’t forget to your gardening hoses from your outside silcock (outdoor faucet or wall hydrant).

The faucets today are self draining, and they must be able to clear themselves. Before the first freeze, shut your valve off on the inside of your house, and then go outside and turn the faucet on. Keep an eye on it; it should only drip for a few minutes.  Then turn it off and store the water hose until springtime.
